example
An example image for my students for their next project. They're making masks! This is a vectored version of a self portrait originally done in pencils. We were to portray ourselves as some kind of cultural mask. Naturally, I took the Tibetan route.
I also now remember why I hate vectors and the pen tool. So tedious and boring. x_x

Put your-
A tribute to Mother Monster that I’ve been wanting to do for far too long. I don’t know why I never knocked it out before. But a few years back, I might not have been able to get it to work. So maybe it was for the best to wait to do it now.
Pretty simple stuff. Classic good design colors, also heavily inspired by the Bad Romance music video, which is probably my favorite to this day. I wanted to draw the Mother as a real monster. :P Since I am a little monster who draws…monsters.
ILU Gaga. Keep being a badass and giving us all the inspiration to keep pushing for what we want in life.

Shame
A slightly belated birthday present for haikujaguar of her character Shame. This is the second time I've drawn him for this occasion, but what can I say, I like him. :P Plus with Black Blossom now being released, he's been more present on my reading list. He also helped me break out of my "how do I draw faces" drawing derp. It took a few tries though. And it seemed he'd only cooperate if he got to look right. I tried giving him a bit of a critical face, as if something not necessarily good just caught his attention.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Jaguar's writing, you should definitely give her stuff a read. I'm pretty partial to Ai-Naidari aliens myself, so I recommend reading both The Aphorisms of Kherishdar and The Admonishments of Kherishdar . Once you done that you can catch up to Black Blossom and then keep tabs on that one as it's released. Shame doesn't feature until Admonishments, but he's in Black Blossom as well. It's been interesting to see how the Calligrapher and Shame interact with each other. Every new piece of the story is a highlight of my day when I see it update.

too small a space
This is a piece I’m doing for a jurried show. The only requirements for the show is that the pieces were not to exceed 6” in any direction. So I did a little painting of a rather irate monster being crammed into a too small space.
I had originally scanned this, but my scanner devoured it. So I ended up photo documenting it. It still doesn’t totally capture the image, but it’s a lot better. The image is done with acrylics, colored pencil and some ink.
Bonus silly monster thumbnails. :P How I planned how how I wanted the monster scrunched in the space. I had the idea to have bits of the monster poking out of the frame, but then the image on the whole would have had to shrink to keep in the size restriction.

Little media study monsters. I'm making pieces for a show where they all have to be 6" x 6", and I'll be doing monsters (who would have guessed!) in traditional media, so I did these two to warm up and remember how to use paint.
Done in a watercolor moleskine book, acrylic paint and colored pencils.
Parkour

Dinner and a Movie
Locust, my cyberpunk character, eating ramen while surfing the internet, at the same time. Truly, this is why he spent so much of his time making said arms, and learning how to use them.
Just a quick, maybe even under an hour doodle.
Been on a cyberpunk kick, and I haven’t really drawn Locust at all, save what I had to to get his appearance down, and figure out his extra arms. No refs used, and it shows. I think you can tell where I started to lose my attention span on it as well. >.>

Everything's better with werewolves
Commission done for fellow WW RPer and friend Fran who's only prompt for this was "Anna and Lou hanging out." and the rest was left to me. Needless to say, when you have werewolves involved, something awesome must happen. So here we are, Lou getting the best piggie back ride ever. :P
please reblog if you like!
Anna Teeth-Gnasher (the big monstrous werewolf) is mine. Lou the kinfolk is Fran's.

The concept started as taking macro shots of the veins in my wrists, and evolved into how much we could abstract my hands and arms. Turned into a project of movement, lighting and color. I love the expressive quality of hands, how much can be said with them.
These were shot all getto-fabulous, using a bed sheet as the backdrop, and a plastic blue poncho as our 'color gel' over our light source. :P

Bananna car
Sketch of my car while camping. Trying to loosen up and not worry so much over clean images anymore. It was a fun time killer. I drive a 2003 Mistubishi Lancer. :P
Art for sale!
These two just came back home from an art show at a local tea shop here, and I figured since they're still framed up all nice, I'd give them a chance to sell online. So here's the info:
Click to see them bigger, and read the info better. If you would like to buy either of these, you can contact me at conleyea13@gmail.com . Shipping will have to be worked out after, since I'm not sure how much it will cost to send these guys off.

The Destroyer
This was my final project for my game design group project. I created our doomsday machine for a steampunk RPG set in British occupied India. It's Shiva incarnate as Nataraja, the destroyer. Lots of fun, but super tedious. More or less happy with the final product.
art nouveau
The Last of my art history monsters, I wanted to go out with a much loved point in art history. This one is my Art Nouveau monster. What I wanted to do was make a rather ungraceful monster look so through the use of the stylistic themes of the genre. I had a lot of fun with this one. The text says "Fat monster" in french. Everything was had drawn either in ink or Ps, including the text.

First time doing figure drawing digitally. Brought my computer and tablet with me to SOCA. It was a nice change of pace. Planning to do more figures like the very last one.

Corax book cover
Not a monster for a change! My second project in my Projects in Illustration class. This one was to redesign a book cover. I decided to redesign the book cover for the now out of print Corax Breed Book by White Wolf Publishing. I've been playing their RPGs for ages now, and the Corax are the werecritters I've always been most fond of.
The thinking behind this was to show the two most essential components of the Corax. They're ravens, and they spread information. I ended up taking a Russian constructivist motif for the image, and using a similar color pallet.
All done in Ps CS3.

Woodcut but not really
Monster number two. A medieval European monster in the style of a woodcut. Done with a crowquill ink pen on watercolor paper. Below is the brain storming process to get to this point, including a rather derp first idea monster. :P

Cave monster
For senior portfolio I'm doing a series of monsters throughout art history. The first one is a prehistoric cave monster. Here's the final product.
Here's the thought process behind getting to this point. I thought it'd be interesting to show how my brain comes to this final conclusion.
I'm working on the next monster now. It's a medieval wood cut like thing. I'll have that up about the same time next week.

Poe Museum banner
Long time no post. Here's my first project from Projects in Illustration. The asignment was to create an ad of some kind for whatever you chose. I decided to do banners for the Poe Museum here in Richmond. I'm terribly happy with how they turned out.
All done in Ink with some white acrylic, 8.5" x 17" and then diecut extra bits. Lettering was hand done, and is on the originals.
