too small a space

This is a piece I’m doing for a jurried show. The only requirements for the show is that the pieces were not to exceed 6” in any direction. So I did a little painting of a rather irate monster being crammed into a too small space.
I had originally scanned this, but my scanner devoured it. So I ended up photo documenting it. It still doesn’t totally capture the image, but it’s a lot better. The image is done with acrylics, colored pencil and some ink.

Bonus silly monster thumbnails. :P How I planned how how I wanted the monster scrunched in the space. I had the idea to have bits of the monster poking out of the frame, but then the image on the whole would have had to shrink to keep in the size restriction.

Little media study monsters. I'm making pieces for a show where they all have to be 6" x 6", and I'll be doing monsters (who would have guessed!) in traditional media, so I did these two to warm up and remember how to use paint.

Done in a watercolor moleskine book, acrylic paint and colored pencils.

Emperor

Master copy of the famous Jacques-Louis David painting Napoleon Crossing the Alps. Completely hand painted in Ps. A friend was kind enough to let me borrow their face. The piece is for a Type and Image project where we had to lay out and design a magazine article. Mine was Ralph for Emperor by Ralph Wanger. The concept was that "Ralph" was super imposing himself upon a famous emperor, cutting his face out from a photo and roughly taping it over a print or what have you that he owned. So yes, the tape is intentional. :P

Waaaaaayyyy too many hours in Ps

fish heads

Small painting for a presentation tomorrow. It's a Payara, also (incorrectly called) the Vampire Tetra. Yes, their teeth really are that big. Go look them up! they're awesome.

Oil Paint

This is my second try using oil paints to paint a person. The first wasn't as good, so I think I'm learning. It's a tough medium though. I think paint in general (save watercolor) tends not to jive with me. Which is all the more reason to work harder at it. I think the hardest parts are the smaller details, and the last few hours of work. The eyes and mouth, along with the nostril were the toughest part. It requires the steady hand I tend to lack. I'm pretty proud of what I've managed to accomplish though, given this is only my second attempt with the medium.
