Bat nosed monster

I actually had planned on drawing something completely different, but this little guy wanted to be seen I guess. Anatomy on him is bad because I was just making it up as I went along. A nice break from all the stuff I've got on my plate right now.

Done in about an hour or less from start to finish. Bat nose!

SOCA couples night

Tonight was a couple, which was fun. I got there a bit late so my first one is less than five minutes. I like it though, it's still nice and loose.

Started playing with not just drawing as much of the model as possible from here on out. Proved to be much more interesting.

Playing with bolder lines in that last one. Was fun.

new things

color experiment doodle. Trying flat spaces against rendered ones. Hair done in markers, skin done with acrylics. then just some white ink and a brown micron. Might play with this idea a bit more later when the summer affords me more free time.

Casting is a strange beast

So, I'm taking a glass casting class, and for my third piece, we had to do a found object. I did a toy revolver. It casted great! Except for the chamber. I don't know how it managed to do it, but it left out the entire chamber and trigger. My guess was the mold was so long, the glass started to cool before it filled the whole thing. Here's some pictures.

Ah well. It's a pretty cool looking error either way. Sometimes the glass just doesn't want to do what you want it to.

Crossroads

We went to a local coffee shop during class and sketched out in the lovely weather.

Quantum Physics GO!

Didn't have SOCA last week, so no sketches. But we're getting together to do our Faux SOCA friday, so I should have stuff from that. Here's a set of playing card faces I did.

The theme for these was Schrodinger's Cat. If you haven't heard of it, I suggest looking it up, as it would take me too long to explain it here. But for the purposes of the cards, it's a cat that is both alive and dead simultaneously. There's bits in here I'm not 100% on, but crit for them is tomorrow so we'll see if I get any help on them then.


I'm going to be doing an acrylic painting this weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to put something up here that's not just more sketches soon! I just have a lot of semester long projects this semester, so I won't have much to show until it's over.

Steam Machine

My first piece for my Honors class. There was a lot of worry about starting this piece, and there's still a lot of imperfections, but over all, it's not something I do generally, so for that fact, I'm happy with how it turned out. Circles are such a pain to keep perfect when you're painting them. x_x

The idea of this piece was to portray a steam machine without directly drawing one. So I've tried to grab the essence of the technology, and use it to get the feeling of the machine. I made the copper oxidized to show the age and wear of the tech, seeing as how it's not really used anymore, and highly inefficient.

I used watercolor, gouache, acrylic and a bit of white ink on this.
